Thermal Imaging

What is Thermal imaging

An Electrical thermal imaging survey is a non-evasive and non-destructive procedure using infrared technology. An electrical thermal imaging survey using a special thermal imaging camera can be handheld or tripod mounted.

The process includes a full site survey of the electrical power distribution of a Building, Domestic, Industrial Or Commercial to evaluate the condition, of sensitive components subject to heat that may fail or possibly fail due to excessive overload or from general wear.

It is recommended that an annual test be performed particularly in heavy industry or were possible high risk of failure might occur.

Reports are produced and are often requested by some insurance providers, as part of their insurance cover.

The performance of Thermal investigation can prove vital in planned Maintenance.

Fixed testing covers a wide range of services, and can be referred to as Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICR), hard wire testing, test and inspection reports, periodic testing or electrical testing. The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 state that employers have a “duty of care” to their staff to keep their electrical systems safe and in full working order, so it’s vital to conduct regular fixed wire inspections. As of July 2020, the law has changed and it is mandatory for rented properties (including private student and rental) to be tested at least one in five years or after a change of occupancy.
